goldwasser“If you will say:  What will we eat in the seventh year when we do not sow and gather in our crops, I will proclaim a blessing for you in the sixth year and it will yield a crop sufficient for three years (Vayikra 25:20-21).

The pesukim imply that Hashem will bless the yield of crops in the sixth year only if the people question what they will eat during the shemittah year.  Wouldn’t it be more appropriate to be rewarded with abundant crops if we manifest strong bitachon and faith in Hashem and do not express reservations about our source of sustenance during the shemittah?

HONOR AMONG FRIENDS

goldwasserBut on the tenth day of this month it is the Day of Atonement …” (Vayikra 23:27)

The Chazon Ish once commented that people tend to differentiate between mitzvos bein adam l’makom and mitzvos bein adam l’chaveiro.  In fact, he noted, the distinction is fallacious.  If one initiates a dissociation or separation between himself and his fellow man, adjures the Chazon Ish, he is in actuality creating a division between himself and Hashem.   He cites the pasuk (Bereishis 1:27), “Hashem created man in His image, in the image of Hashem He created him …” to demonstrate this point.

factsIn January 25, 2009 he had this to say:

"Palestinians ... when they want to travel from one town to another, they have to submit to humiliating delays at checkpoints and roadblocks. There are more than 600 of them on the West Bank."

In April 22, 2012 he had this to say:

"For all Palestinians, just leaving Bethlehem is a struggle. Getting to Jerusalem, only seven miles away, whether it's to pray, go to a doctor, visit family members, or work, means going through this Israeli checkpoint. That can take hours but before Palestinians can get even this far, they need a permit from the Israelis which can take weeks or months to obtain and is frequently denied."

goldwasserConcerning the mitzvah of bris milah, the Medrash Tanchuma relates that Hashem notes how beloved are the mitzvos are to Klal Yisroel, as they defend them and rejoice in their performance.  Hashem promises His nation that He in turn will increase their joy as it says (Yeshayah 29:19), “The meek will increase their joy in Hashem, and the poor among the people will rejoice in the Holy One of Israel.”

Our sages tell us (Brachos 54b) that four categories of people have to offer thanksgiving:  one who crossed the sea, one who traveled through the desert, one who has recovered from an illness, and a prisoner who has been set free.

Political Rights in Palestine
01.03.2012
facts"Neither customary international law nor the United Nations Charter acknowledges that every group of people [Palestinian Arabs included] claiming to be a nation has the right to a state of its own." [1]

February 27, 2012 | Eli E. Hertz

The Mandate for Palestine, a legally binding document under international law, clearly differentiates between political rights - referring to Jewish self-determination as an emerging polity - and civil and religious rights, referring to guarantees of equal personal freedoms to non-Jewish residents as individuals and within select communities.
